Homeowners who invest in renewable energy sources, such as solar and wind, can benefit further by using an energy storage system in their home. Powered by computerized control systems using intelligent battery software, these energy storage systems store energy during the daytime and release it when needed most, such as peak demand hours or during a power outage.
Homeowners benefit by lowering their energy costs, having uninterrupted power supply, depending less on the utility, having the potential to sell energy back to the utility and using less fossil fuels.
Mower was asked to increase consumer awareness about LG Electronics’ “Home 8” residential energy storage system and the benefits it could bring to homeowners. To do so, our Insights team surveyed over 1,500 U.S. homeowners in search of a hook that would capture news coverage and position LG Electronics as a go-to resource.
The results concluded that 67% of homeowners experienced a power outage in the past year and half experienced multiple power outages annually. 14% experienced outages that lasted longer than three hours, and another 50% indicated that their outages usually lasted longer than 30 minutes.
Concerns about the effects of the power outage ranged from no internet, failure to charge communications devices and inability to heat/cool homes.
For those with residential solar installed, a quarter of respondents reported having an energy storage system. Of those who didn’t, 80% said it was a future priority. Two-thirds of those prioritizing energy storage systems cited “a brand I can trust” as a highly important factor in their impending buying decision.
To amplify the message of LG Electronics as a resource for energy storage systems, Mower developed engaging infographics and pitched the survey results and infographics to the media.
A news release kicked off the effort and follow-up pitches helped establish LG Electronics team members as subject matter experts on the topic of energy storage systems.
The combination of proactive PR pitching and engaging infographics helped Mower to secure hundreds of media placements and laid the foundation for future public relations efforts for LG Electronics.
