Corporate Social Responsibility
Supporting the well-being of our employees at work, at home and in the community.
We bring employee well-being to life each day through a culture based on collaboration, respect and growth. We offer:
Our efforts to support the well-being of employees and create a rewarding work environment have received national recognition. In 2021, Mower placed among Ad Age’s Best Places to Work for the third year. We earned a spot among the top 50 overall nationwide and the top 25 with fewer than 200 employees. (We’re really proud of this one because it’s based on employee input.)
Our corporate culture was also recognized in 2020 when Mower made its fifth appearance in eight years among the annual PRNews Top Places to Work.
Giving back to our local communities through civic leadership, nonprofit volunteerism and corporate philanthrophy.
Mower is committed to making a positive impact in the communities where our employees live and work. We provide more than 1,350 hours of pro bono professional services annually, and employees spend more than 2,000 hours in service to our communities each year as board and committee members. Employees also participate in an annual Day of Caring event, volunteering as a team for not-for-profit organizations in our community.
Aligning our company culture and business practices to promote diversity, equity, inclusion and belonging for all people.
Mower’s deep commitment to Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Belonging encompasses every aspect of our company. It applies to what goes on within our walls as well as the marketing communications programs we create. At the heart of our efforts is a steadfast dedication to providing and nurturing a culture of belonging, opportunity and inclusion for all, celebrating the uniqueness of every individual. We place a strong emphasis on multicultural recruiting, including multicultural hiring initiatives with goals and timeframes. We are proud to report that at the end of 2022, we had 15% total diversity of ethnicity across our agency. Our “Employer of Choice” committee, composed of people from many disciplines and locations, is an important piece of that. The goal: to build trust and make our culture a magnet for motivated and diverse talent. The EOC team leads monthly cultural celebrations and/or education across the agency on topics such as gay pride, women’s history and Hispanic heritage.
We provide opportunities for employees (and others) to participate in informative programs about diversity, equity, inclusion and belonging on an ongoing basis. A few examples from the last few years include designating Juneteenth an official company holiday and providing employees the option of participating in One Hundred Black Men of New York’s Juneteenth Virtual Village, an event co-sponsored by Mower; holding unconscious bias training for all staff; and taking part in the 21-Day Racial Equity Challenge.
We also achieved The 4A’s Workplace Enlightenment Certification, moving all levels of the organization toward the highest standards of equity and inclusion. This certification impacts all levels of the organization—with emphasis on leadership and HR—and helps us address a range of needs from building a diverse talent pool to ensuring equitable practices. In addition, our HR recruitment lead who has achieved the designation as a certified diversity and inclusive recruiter which had focus on resources and search tactics to recruit veterans and individuals with disabilities.
Our commitment to Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Belonging also extends to our business vendor partnerships. We have a growing database of businesses owned by people of color and women built through our ongoing research, vetting and partnerships. We include these vendor partners in our estimating and scheduling process for all appropriate projects. Mower takes cost, schedules and capabilities into account before committing to any vendor partner, to be sure we always have the right fit.
Being good citizens of the environment by following responsible business practices that make a positive impact on the planet.
Our commitment to serving as good stewards of the earth comes to life through our actions and policies as an agency and the activities and interests of our employees. Our environmentally minded initiatives include:
Working with environmentally responsible companies that recycle, refurbish and resell our electronic equipment.
Monitoring printer usage and utilizing electronic document approvals, sharing and collaboration to ensure responsible printing.
Using communications technology to reduce travel, contributing to lower carbon emissions.
Providing recycling bins in all of our offices.
Investing in virtual computing and cloud-based systems that in the last four years have reduced electricity consumptions by slightly more than half and cooling by a third agency wide.
